- Bob Hiltermann is a multi-talented musician, actor and director. Born deaf in Wiesbaden, Germany August 1, 1952. His parents, Karl and Marie, they moved their family of 11 children to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. While living in Canada, Bob's family spoke mostly German and eventually spoke English to their vocabulary.

 

- Bob grew up in a classical musical family, which influenced him greatly. Bob's father and siblings enjoyed entertaining family celebrations, school functions and holidays with their classical musical reviews. One of Bob's fondest memories is at age 10; Bob met an Indian boy from the Blackfoot Tribe. They became instant friends and every summer Bob attended the Blackfoot Tribe Reservation and Pow-wow Dance Ceremony.

 

- It was at one of these ceremonies Bob was allowed to pound on one of the large deer skin drums of the chanters. This was Bob's first drumming experience. Also, during one of Bob's visits to the reservation he was exposed to one of rock and roll's greatest songs, "Good Golly Miss Molly" by Little Richard. Bob has since discovered an eclectic flavor in music including Country/Western, Motown and Rock and Roll.

 

- Bob attended hearing schools, struggling to learn academics due to his hearing problem. Bob taught himself how to read lips and can carry on a conversation comfortably without the use of an interpreter, if needed. Bob graduated high school and was accepted to Gallaudet University.

 

- Bob attended Gallaudet University to get his degree in education. While in college, Bob met Ed Chevy and Steve Longo, and the three formed America's first all-deaf rock and roll band - now known as Beethoven's Nightmare. Beethoven's Nightmare has successfully toured in America. Beethoven's Nightmare has released one CD titled "Turn It Up Louder". This CD carries all it's own original songs.

 

- As an actor, Bob has appeared in the critically acclaimed motion picture "Children of a Lesser God", ABC's daytime soap “All My Children,” CBS's series “Cold Case”, the CBS movie "A Bridge to Silence", the ABC movie "Tin Man", the UPN series "Sirens", and has appeared in numerous commercials.

 

- Not only is Bob one of the founding members of Deaf West Theatre, he frequently starred in many of DWT's award winning productions including "A Streetcar Named Desire," "Romeo and Juliet," "Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp," "His Wife," and "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest.”

 

- Bob is well known for his work with Ed Chevy and his sister Rita Corey in the award winning avant-garde musical theater company, MUSIGN, which toured both nationally and internationally.

 

- Bob has directed stage plays such as "The Hunchback of St. Jacques," "Children of a Lesser God," "A Taste of Sunrise," "Wild Minds," "Everyday Cafe" and "Say What?” Bob has also wrote and directed many workshops, schools plays, and special programs.

 

- Bob resides in Los Angeles where he is married to his lovely wife Adylia, formerly a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, Royal Canadian Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre. They have two children, Kayla and Ryan.

 

- Bob's many talents lead him to teach the third most spoken language in America - American Sign Language. He is known as an important trailblazer for sharing his talent and knowledge with the young deaf and hearing community.
